A re-imagining of the 1801 painting by Jacques-Louis David of Napoleon Bonaparte. His horse is inspired by Kelpies of Scottish folklore : shapeshifting skeletal horses that lure travelers to their demise in swamps, alluding to the military commanders mastery of propaganda. The cloak is a portal into a forest fire, insight into the destructive tyranny of his conquests; transforming into golden feathers : a nod to Icarus from Greek Mythos. I wanted to capture the dichotomy of Napoleon as a grandios, archetypal hero as well as a the darker lens of his rule as a power hungry dictator.

This print ships for free anywhere in the USA! If you live outside of the USA please email me for a quote on added shipping costs.
